    Resident Evil: Degeneration Review

Finally, after ages of waiting I'm able to watch my favourite characters, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield in their own dedicated CG movie. They're both one of the reasons I've been staying with the series for long long. :P

First of all, the version I've watched is English dubbed version. It isn't too bad, but I find the lip-sync is a bit awkward at times, and it kinda ticks me off.

If you're about to say it's an original Japanese voiceover movie after all, mind you, Biohazard series are all translated into their English counterparts without flaws. The dubbings are done nicely (as we can see in Resident Evil X: Code Veronica, Resident Evil 4, & etc) and I really like their voices in the games.

I don't mind the dubbing group takes longer time to translate, make adjustment to the movie, or what-so-ever, I prefer characters talking in a realistic manner. I don't mind them spending more time just to get the movie done.

Well right to the second point, occassionally, I find the animation of characters are a bit too robotic to me. Their movements look unnatural, and sometimes it's just like they move because they're forced to. The most notable example is that: I don't like the painful expression that came from Claire's face when she's removing the glass shard from her thigh. Another downside of the movie.

Oh yeah, another critical point of the series, Resident Evil (or Biohazard) developer loves the concept of countdown explosion to create tension in the gamers or audiences. I don't recall any of the series' last chapter not including such an event, and I'll proudly list them out here for all of the Resident Evil which I've ever played before (or read extensively via GameFaqs):

Resident Evil 0: No idea, but I think there's a sort of explosion event after the leech queen (Dr. Bla Bla) got owned by Rebecca Chambers and her mate.
Resident Evil 1: The core explosion of the Spencer Mansion.
Resident Evil 2: Bah, explosion of the whole underground facility (I think so) plus the detonation of the train.
Resident Evil 3: What else is more dramatic than a sterilization of the Racoon City using nuclear missles?
Resident Evil X: Code Veronica: After Alexia's death, the whole places/facilities owned by Ashford's family go "kaboom" a moment after Claire and Chris have escaped using a fighter jet (cool!)
Resident Evil 4: Another explosion in the final chapter where Leon escapes using a jet ski after he owned Saddler...
    Resident Evil 5: TBA
Resident Evil: Outbreak File #1 & #2: I'm not sure if my memory serves me well, but both games' finale includes such an event too.

Another point that I'd like to raise is that the usage of G-Virus in the movie makes me feel like it's Resident Evil 2 being reproduced into a movie. William Birkins and Curtis Miller. Hah, they're similiar in a particular way though. XD

That's all I could think up for the moment, but it's hilarious just to think about it. So many explosion event, and all of them are usually recycled footages (just in a different manner).

Enough about the criticisms, but there are still something worth to be praised of for the movie.

Character interactions are well done, and I really like how calm Leon is after getting through so much of stuff. Claire, however, didn't get a major role in this show but then the movie still shows a great deal about her. Well done, and thumbs up for that.

I haven't mention that the movie is pretty good at keeping the audience at the edge of their seats? Good actions with nice sequences, and thanks to these, I've got some new, fresh source of ideas to extract from.

The characters are pretty good-looking, especially the new character Angella. She looks quite hot (in a way) during the end of the movie, though that I still root for the redhead, Claire Redfield. Too bad, her dressings are being mould down, so...less sex appeal. XD

Overall, I'd say it isn't a bad movie and it's definitely worth your time watching it, regardless of the fact that you are a Resident Evil fan or not. On a one-to-ten rating scale, I'd give it an okay mark of 6~7.

So, tell me what you think if you watched it too. :P
