Today, I'd like to try link the keyword "rich" to my personal experience while I was playing game ages ago.
Why I'm doing this suddenly? That's because I've just found a strong reassemblance of the feelings and likeliness in this game.
First of all, just like what my tax lecturer has mentioned during his class, on our stage (teenager-adult), we don't have enough money to spend, but instead, what we have in return is the maximum happiness we derived from all sort of experiences. And as we get older, we have money but the happiness is fast diminishing. This is really true when I tried to form a link between the two subjects I'm about to talk about.
I'm going to illustrate it with Warcraft 3 - Ladder Game scenario. Let's see, it doesn't matter you, the reader, possess any sort of experience in this game or not, I'll try to write it in the way which everyone will understand.
When you commence the game, the first thing utmost important thing that you need to do is to
gather gold in order for you to have sufficient funds to build up your empire. Your objective, is of course, being the richest and squash your enemy. As to how you're going to achieve that, it isn't important in this case. Your primary concern now is none other the everyone's beloved gold, which is your
source of income at the moment.
At this particular moment, gold means a lot to you, and without it you can hardly survive (though that you may still be able to achieve that); that's exactly the same as to our teenager years. But as you grow your empire larger, you'll need
more funding to support the kingdom. I'd dub that
building up a family and
having a child, which is a critical moment that money more than everything to you (in order for you to provide your newborn child with the best thing you could've afford).
See the similiarities?
As you proceed towards the next stage of the game, you'll need money to obilerate your enemies, but not as much as you need them previously. This is because what you have now are
tangible assests, all being realised into substances and have their own physical forms. Things are being established and slow down as you go, and in my case, it's having an ample amount of property assets and having them as my passive source of income.
This is where management kicks in. In game, you'll
utilise your assets and crush your enemies into dusts, while in real life, you'll try your best to secure them in order not to let other people take them away. The only difference in both situation is that, one is on the offensive side, while the other takes on a defensive stance.
Okay, this is when it makes a major difference in life. Till date (where you have a lot of incomes), money means little to nothing to you in game right, especially when your enemies are done for good, and what's left are the scattered troops which you'll take time to extinguish. Until now, in the case of real life, money can
buy a very little amount of happiness for you. The main reasons might be due to:
- You're having too much of them until they don't really mean anything to you anymore.
- You've got wealth, but you don't possess the other keys to happiness - health & time.
- and etc...
And when like, say, you've got an uncurable disease, monetary values will means nothing to you right? What's most important is that
what you gain in exchange of those money. Time spent with your friends, family? Bought your happiness back? Made other people around you happy (donations)? Tried to make the world a better place?
Your pick.
Overall, what I'd like to convey is that, being rich is to sustain or provide you with a wealthy life, but what's more important is that
what goes around, comes around. I believe this is one of the main reason why most of the accountants, being the calculative type of person they are, fail to become the world's richest man. They're being just, urm, too selfish sometimes in my own opinion. No offense to anyone, but, I think life is all about sharing experiences, thoughts, and happiness together right, don't you think so?
So, for conclusion, learn how to earn a lot of money, but don't forget to spend and derive happiness before the diminshing return takes away all the joy and fun. Don't forget life is so full with meanings yeah!
